Day 1: Flight London – Beijing

Day 2: Arrival – Beijing

After clearing immigration, you will be met by out Tour Director/local representative in the arrivals hall and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and settle in before dinner at an Indian restaurant.

Day 3: Beijing

We depart from our hotel in the morning to visit the biggest public square in the world, Tiananmen Square, that at first sight will conquer you with its grandeur. Then onto the Forbidden City that has been the imperial palace for 24 emperors during Ming and Qing Dynasties and the biggest ancient architecture complex in the world. In the afternoon, you continue your trip to Summer Palace. Having the largest royal park and being well preserved, it was designated in 1960 by the State Council as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Site of China. Containing examples of the ancient arts it combines graceful landscapes with magnificent constructions.

Day 4: Beijing

In the morning we drive approximately 75km to visit the Great Wall at Badaling pass and Jade factory. Then we continue to the Beijing Olympic Park, to see the outside view of the National Stadium - Bird’s Nest and National Aquatics Center - Water Cube - outside view.

Day 5: Beijing

After breakfast we visit Yonghe Lama Temple, built initially in 1694 during
the Qing Dynasty. This building was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng when he was prince. However, in 1744 the Qing Dynasty formally changed the status of the dwelling to that of a lamasery, and so it became the national centre of Lama administration. Later we visit Houhai lake and Hutong area. Free time - shopping in the local market.

Day 6: Beijing – Xian by bullet train

After an early breakfast we transfer to Beijing west train station to take the high speed train to Xian. Enjoying a first class experience in the 2nd class carriage. On arrival, meet your local guide and visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a well-preserved ancient Building and a holy place for Buddhists. After that, you will continue your trip to the Muslim Quarter.

Day 7: Xian

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning we start a full days tour to China’s richest historic area, recognized by UNESCO as the eighth wonder of the world, the amazing Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Famous for the great underground Terra Cotta army of the First Emperor of China, buried with him 2200 years ago and discovered only in 1974. It is the most significant archeological excavation of the 20th century. Before leaving you will visit a special art lacquar work shop. Time permitting, we will continue to Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum. Certainly worth a visit.

Day 8: Xian – Chengdu by flight

After breakfast, we visit the City Walls, the most complete city wall in China as well as one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Then fly to Chengdu. The rest of the day is free.

Day 9: Chengdu

Your day starts with a tour of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Possibly the earliest reserves of its kind in China, this 540 hectare park is a truly splendid way to see the panda in its natural state. Later we visit Wangjiang Pavilion Park with its elegant garden of bamboo, the finest in Chengdu. Built in 1889,
River Watching Tower has become a Chengdu landmark not to be missed. Then onto Jinli Ancient Street featuring hotels and small stores built in an old-fashioned style. Antiques are sold in a variety of different stores. It is very popular among both tourists and locals

Day 10: Embark Chengdu – Chongqing by bullet train

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station to take the high speed train (in the 2nd class) to Chongqing. Where you will be met by your local guide for an exciting city tour of Chongqing. Later you will be driven to the pier ready to embark a relaxing Yangtze River Cruise.

Day 11: Yangtze River Cruise

Depart from Chongqing in the morning. The first shore excursion of the cruise occurs either at Fengdu, (optional) Shibaozhai or Wanzhou, depending on local river conditions.

Day 12: Yangtze River Cruise

Todays cruise passes Three Gorges, namely Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge and Xiling Gorge, before taking an excursion through Daning River Lesser Three Gorges. In the evening, sail through the ship locks.

Day 13: Disembark,Yichang – Shanghai by flight

After breakfast your morning is spent visiting Three Gorges Dam before transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 14: Shanghai

Today we visit a Buddhism shrine - Jade Buddha Temple, located in Shanghai City. Famed for its two bejewelled white jade Buddha. Carved from a whole piece of white jade, the sitting jade Buddha statue is translucent with a solemn expression, displaying the excellent skill and extraordinary art of Chinese people. Yuyuan Garden and Yu Market has many scenic courtyards decorated with baroque rockery, pools, and flora that are all connected by corridors and passageways. Then tour the Tion Hou Silk Factory and see how nothing is wasted in the silk-making process. Your shopping trip begins in Nanjing Road at the Bund and runs westward, with People’s Square in the middle. Renowned for its bustling and modernization, Nanjing Road earns its reputation as the ‘First Commercial Road in China’. A shopping ‘heaven’ the equivalent of Fifth Avenue in New York and Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Some of the traditional food and handicrafts of Shanghai can be found here. Then we come to the Bund, The renowned waterfront district is the city’s most famous landmark. The word BUND is of Anglo-India origin meaning embankment on the waterfront. It is also the popular site to enjoy the night view of the city. After this, you can continue your trip to French Concession Area.

Day 15: Shanghai

Today you will visit Zhujiajiao, located in a suburb of Shanghai city, Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town well-known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years. Covering an area of 47 square kilometres, the little fan-shaped town glimmers like a bright pearl in the landscape of lakes and mountains. Endowed with another elegant name ‘Pearl Stream’ the little town is the best-preserved among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. Free time shopping in the local market.

Day 16: Flight Shanghai – London

Breakfast at the hotel, then transferred to the airport for your flight home.

Day 17: Return to UK
